The University of Johannesburg was established on 1 January 2005, after the merger of the East Rand and Soweto campuses of Vista University and the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) on 1 January 2004.
In 2008, Shantelle joined the Student Affairs team and was responsible for International Student Affairs. Her duties included managing applications, offering student support, overseeing the International Student Society, responsible for incoming exchange students, and liaising with Government Scholarship offices and Student Finances.

Shantelle became a member of the Division for Internationalisation in 2012. She has since specialised in immigration, and she is responsible for prospective and registered student support.
