SPEAKER BIO

Maud Blose

Dr Maud Blose is currently a Teaching Advancements at a University (TAU) Fellow. She holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She’s also a Fulbright Scholar with a MSc in Broadcast Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Chicago, U.S.A. She has over a decade experience as a lecturer at higher education sector.

Dr Blose is a senior lecturer and departmental lead for Internationalisation and Partnerships at the University of Johannesburg where she teaches media and communication, film and television, journalism applied and theory. Her experiences also include being a multimedia journalist for digital media, and a columnist for a weekly newspaper. She is passionately inspired by humanitarian stories, and the effects of climate change on women’s development and empowerment. One of her passions include community engagement initiatives and mentoring young people. She loves storytelling using multimedia platforms. Her areas of interest in research include media and society, representation of black women in the media, African feminism, e-learning and higher education.
